Where to Find the Best Slices of Pie in NYC

Where to Find the Best Slices of Pie in NYC

Picture this: you’re sitting at an oak table in a large room, Howie Mandel is smiling at you from a rocking chair across the room with his goatee effortlessly running down that perfectly sculpted chin. But the sight doesn’t make you happy. It doesn’t even crack a smile on your stone face. You have an insatiable hunger for pie that leaves you disorganized and disturbed. You need pie, and if you don’t get it soon, Howie will be lost forever. Where will you quiet this insatiable hunger?

Momofuku Milk Bar
Different venues all over NYC

This place has more than a widely mispronounced name. Not much more, but there are some seriously great things happening with pie here. I don’t feel like there is a wrong choice to make when deciding between pies, but I do know the troublingly named “crack pie” is delicious and the right choice for many. I’d be surprised if there was anything other than butter and sugar in it, but hey - that’s where the starpower is.

Hubba, hubba! The coconut cream pie at this place will blow your mind. Also it’s free if you eat it in less than 30 seconds. Sadly, I’m kidding about that last part but I was dead serious about the pie being fantastic. The shop is a small, homely, and smells like heaven. Even if you don’t buy anything you should just stand inside and enjoy the aroma.

Little Pie Co.
424 W 43rd St, New York, New York, 10036

Let me start by saying this place will ruin pies for you permanently. It’s so good that it should be illegal. They could be pulling a classic Sweeney Todd, cooking human meat into their pies, but honestly, even then I might go back for more, and I sure wouldn’t blame anyone else who did. If I had to recommend something, it would have to be their sour cream apple pie: something so beautiful it shouldn’t be real. Just in case you’re not convinced, a little known person called OPRAH compared the pie here to, “a slice of summer.”

Petee’s Pie Company
61 Delancey St (btwn Allen & Eldridge St), New York, NY

Everything is amazing at Petee’s Pie Company. The employees are so pleasent to be around. They all exude a sort of confidence and tranquility you might only otherwise see in the likes of Howie. Their apple pie alamode is positively euphoric! And come on, you have to admire the alliteration of “Petee’s Pie Company.”

Billy’s Bakery
184 9th Ave (btw 21st & 22nd St), New York, NY

They have some slamming banana cream pie here. As an added bonus, it’s located less than five blocks from the UCB Theatre, a.k.a. home of, “the best live comedy. Improv, sketch, stand-up and more for $10 or less.” This placed launched the careers of some of the most successful comedians today, including Amy Poehler, Nick Kroll, Kate McKinnon, and Donald Glover. So I recommend you watch some people for an hour or so at the UCB, and then wrap the experience up with some pie.

In conclusion, you can’t go wrong with pie because it’s delicious, it’s American, and it’s right. So eat up folks! And be happy! You are now ready to return Mandel’s gaze.
