Postmates is an online delivery service that enables people to get food or drinks in under one hour. It is a great way for people to order any food or drink they want directly to their house. One of the unique qualities of Postmates is that its delivery people retrieve food from restaurants that normally do not take delivery orders. One can order from restaurants such as Shake Shack, Chipotle, or Starbucks. Instead of having to make the walk or the drive to one of these popular restaurants, you can have it delivered to your house in a short amount of time. Con's of PostMates
It used to be that if you wanted something, you would go outside and get it yourself. Now, with a click of a button, you can have that special something delivered right to your doorstep. Postmates is a company and application that organizes the delivery of a myriad of goods and services. If you want a bite to eat or a product from a grocery store, you can simply tap a button on your phone and send someone to get it for you. Postmates is transforming the way in which goods move around the city and it has taken Riverdale by storm.
While there are many opinions regarding the morality of Postmates, one cannot deny the convenience of the app. For example, if you wanted to eat food from a restaurant that does not deliver. Postmates offers you a simple solution; just have someone a delivery person from Postmates will pick it up and deliver it to your house. Or, maybe you are not feeling great and do not have the energy to go out and pick up medicine; with the press a button, someone from Postmates will get it for you. It is easy to see why people love using Postmates, since it makes people's lives much easier.
However, there is criticism towards the Postmates app. Teddy Landis, a senior at Riverdale, argues that being able to order anything from anywhere straight to your house “exemplifies the culture of affluence at Riverdale.” While he knows that Postmates makes our lives easier, he says that he “finds discomfort in knowing that a 10 year old has the power to send a man to go fetch things for him or her.” This superfluous display of privilege does not sit well with Landis; by empowering children with the ability to have someone “fetch” things for him or her, it fabricates the idea in their mind that they can get whatever they want, whenever they want. Furthermore, Landis believes that Postmates is subsequently creating a sense of entitlement for students at Riverdale, one which they will carry with them in the future.
For better or for worse, Postmates is still growing and thriving in Riverdale and does not seem to be leaving anytime soon.
While Postmates makes lives easier, it still has its dangers. Since it allows anyone to acquire anything, Postmates contributes significantly to underage drinking. As Postmates continues to expand, the ways in which students come by alcohol become easier and easier. So, what is your opinion on Postmates? Do the cons outweigh the pros? For better or for worse, Postmates is still growing and thriving in Riverdale and is becoming increasingly ingrained in the school culture.
