On Thursday, May 30, Riverdale students and teachers gathered in the new gymnasium to hear the speeches of three candidate pairs run for president of the Student Faculty Council (SFC). The Riverdale community elected Michael Maffezoli and Jason Steiger as their SFC co-presidents for the 2018-2019 school year. The other candidates were Charlotte Birsh and Ross Krakower, and Johnathan Gross and Neel McDonald. All three pairs gave strong speeches, proposing their approach to positive changes in our Riverdale community.
The new SFC presidents remarked on the culture that they wish to bring for the upcoming school year,
"We stand before you as the most qualified pair running for president, with a combined 8 years of service on the student council. So, we know that leading the SFC starts with setting realistic goals. Our first step to a successful SFC is giving giving you all the ability to hold us accountable, as this is something we think the SFC has lacked in the past and is crucial to its success. What we have to offer you is our drive, our experience, and most importantly, our leadership. Think about this, in the 3 weeks that Michael and I have been campaigning, we have already laid the groundwork for significant change in our school. Imagine what we can accomplish as presidents."
