Parting Words from Graduating Editors - Ansh More
Riverdale Review: How long have you been on the Riverdale Review?
Ansh More: I think I was a writer for one year and an editor for two, so 3 years.
RR: What was your position on the Riverdale Review
AM: I was a writer the first year and mainly focused on writing articles about, like, political discourse and South Asian cultural events, and the second year, I was the arts editor, and then the third year, I was the opinions editor.
RR: Do you have advice for someone who is now in your old position?
AM: I would say it’s really important, when you’re being an opinions editor, to get a diverse set of opinions in each paper. It’s really a nice idea to have some opinions that you disagree with: it teaches you a lot about evaluating opinions for their intellectual merit rather than whether you agree or disagree with them. So that’s a really important thing: to learn how to edit and evaluate arguments for their argumentative ability and making those stronger. Another important thing with opinions as advice that I would give is to use point/counterpoint as a format. I think it’s really effective.
